Electronic Highway Vignettes in Europe – Clear and Simple

An electronic highway vignette is a digital alternative to the traditional paper sticker. Physical stickers no longer exist in most European countries – all highway vignettes are now electronic and linked to your vehicle's license plate. This means that during highway checks, police or automatic cameras verify whether your license plate is registered as valid in the system, not whether you have a sticker on your windshield.

Verification is done digitally either through camera systems on highways or during routine vehicle inspections. The vignette is always linked to a specific license plate, which means it cannot be transferred to another vehicle. If you enter the wrong license plate during purchase, contact support as soon as possible.

After payment, a VignetteGO specialist manually processes the request during operating hours. The e-vignette becomes valid only after official registration and from the validity shown in the official purchase confirmation sent to you.

Common Questions Before Buying a Highway Vignette

What is an electronic highway vignette?
An electronic highway vignette is a digital alternative to the traditional paper sticker. It is linked to your vehicle's license plate and is checked automatically via camera systems or during vehicle inspections. Physical stickers no longer exist in most European countries.
How does highway vignette verification work?
Verification is done digitally via camera systems on highways or during routine vehicle inspections. Police or automatic cameras check whether your license plate is registered as valid in the system. No windshield sticker is needed.
When does the electronic vignette become valid?
Official validity rules differ by country. When you order through VignetteGO, payment first creates a request for manual fulfillment. The e-vignette is valid only after a specialist completes the official registration and from the validity shown in the official purchase confirmation.
Is the highway vignette linked to the license plate?
Yes, an electronic highway vignette is always linked to a specific vehicle license plate. This means it cannot be transferred to another vehicle. If you enter the wrong license plate during purchase, contact support as soon as possible.
What to do if there's an error in the license plate?
If you enter the wrong license plate during purchase, contact support immediately. The vignette is linked to the license plate, so the error must be corrected for the vignette to be valid for your vehicle.
Is the electronic vignette valid immediately after purchase?
Validity rules differ by country. A requested start date is not a guarantee that the vignette is already active. The vignette is valid only after our specialist completes registration through the relevant official system and from the actual validity shown in the official purchase confirmation.
Will I receive a purchase confirmation by email?
Yes. Immediately after payment, we send an order confirmation stating that manual fulfillment is pending. After a specialist completes the official purchase, we send a separate fulfillment message and make the available official purchase confirmation accessible in your account. Only the official confirmation proves the actual vignette and validity.
What are the differences between electronic vignettes in different countries?
Each country has its own validity rules and prices. Some countries offer daily, weekly, monthly, and annual options, while others offer only some of these. Prices vary by country and validity type. Some countries require vignettes only for vehicles up to 3.5 tons, others for all vehicles.
Can I buy vignettes for multiple countries in one transaction?
Yes. Select all required countries and make one payment. The order then enters our manual fulfillment queue. After a specialist completes the official purchases, we send the fulfillment message and make the available official confirmations accessible in your account.
Is VignetteGo an official state authority?
No. VignetteGO is an independent commercial intermediary and paid registration service, not a state authority, official toll operator or government website. You appoint our specialist to purchase the selected official e-vignette on your behalf through the relevant verified official portal or authorised channel.
Why use VignetteGo instead of the official portal directly?
VignetteGO provides one multi-country request, 31 languages and payment in supported currencies, then a specialist manually purchases the selected official products on your behalf. This carries a service fee. If you need only one vignette and can use the destination's official portal, buying there directly avoids our service fee.
What payment methods are accepted?
Card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, and Google Pay — all processed securely through Stripe. You can pay in EUR, CZK, CHF, BGN, HUF, RON, PLN, DKK, SEK, NOK, GBP, or USD.
Can I get a refund if I buy the wrong vignette?
Refunds are generally not possible once the vignette has been registered with the issuing state authority, because the digital vignette is the legal toll document. Read the refund policy carefully before buying and double-check your license plate and dates.
Does VignetteGo work for trucks, or only passenger cars?
Currently passenger cars and other vehicles up to 3.5 tons only. Trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles use distinct tariff classes in each country and typically require account-based tolling, not vignettes.
Do you sell vignettes for Croatia, Italy, or France?
Italy and France use distance-based tolling, not time-based vignettes. Croatia also uses distance-based tolls and ENC in 2026. Its nationwide free-flow electronic toll system is scheduled to launch on 1 March 2027, when VignetteGO plans to add Croatia to its portfolio.
How do I know my vignette is actually registered with the state authority?
After payment, your order enters a manual fulfillment queue. During our operating hours, a VignetteGO specialist submits the customer-provided details through the relevant official portal. Your vehicle is covered only after registration has been completed and from the validity shown in the official purchase confirmation. Payment or an order-confirmation email is not proof of a valid vignette.
Can I buy a vignette for a vehicle that doesn't belong to me?
Yes — only the license plate matters. Vignettes for rental cars, company cars, or vehicles belonging to family and friends are all fine. You do not need to be the registered owner.
Do I need an account to buy a vignette?
No account required. We only collect what the state authority needs to register your vignette (license plate, vehicle country, plus VIN for some countries and passport number for Moldova) and your email for the confirmation.
How fast does the vignette activate after payment?
Many countries allow an official vignette to begin on the registration date or on a future selected date. With VignetteGO, payment first creates a request for manual fulfillment. The vignette is valid only after our specialist completes the official registration and from the date shown in the official confirmation.
How can I get a VAT invoice for company expenses?
Email info@vignettego.com with your order number and company VAT details. We issue VAT-compliant invoices on request — useful for business travel reimbursement.

We are not a state organization

VignetteGO is an independent paid intermediary, not a government or toll-operator website. It lets a customer submit one request for multiple countries and appoint a specialist to manually register and purchase the selected official e-vignettes on the customer's behalf through the relevant verified official portals or authorised channels.

A wide range of 15 payment methods such as Visa, MasterCard, ApplePay, GooglePay, RevolutPay, MobilePay, Link, Blik, EPS, iDEAL, Wero, Przelewy24, Klarna and others makes the process even more convenient – everything done in a few clicks. The customer enters their details only once and does not need to purchase and enter their personal, vehicle and payment information on multiple official websites of multiple countries. And that's not all – we support over 30 languages and 12 currencies (so far).

The relevant national toll operator or its authorised channel issues each official e-vignette. VignetteGO is an independent paid intermediary service that handles the customer's official registration request; it is not a state distributor, toll operator or government website.

We display all prices of all offered highway vignettes transparently in the first step of the order form. The customer can therefore easily find and compare purchase prices with our prices on the national servers of individual countries, which are the exclusive issuers of highway vignettes.

The displayed total includes the official vignette or toll charge and the VignetteGO service fee. The service fee covers a specialist manually submitting the customer-provided details and purchasing the selected product on the customer's behalf through the relevant verified official toll-operator portal or authorised channel, secure payment processing, multi-country administration, support and confirmation delivery. This helps customers avoid administrative friction, data-entry mistakes across several portals and unverified look-alike sales sites; it is not a guarantee against every error or third-party risk. Payment starts an order request and does not itself activate a vignette.

Electronic Highway Vignettes by Country

Each country has its own rules, price ranges, and validity types. Below is an overview by region – links lead to detailed pages for each country with current prices and conditions.

Central Europe

In the Czech Republic, a highway vignette is mandatory for many vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. The Czech highway vignette offers several validity options.

When travelling east, you may also need a Slovak e-vignette.

For trips to Austria, see the Austrian digital vignette. Official start-date rules depend on the product and sales channel. VignetteGO processing is manual; always rely on the official purchase confirmation for actual validity.

Southeast Europe

The Hungarian e-matrica offers daily, 10-day, monthly and annual options and is essential for trips to the Adriatic or further east.

For seaside vacations, you'll use the Slovenian e-vinjeta with weekly, monthly or annual validity.

Croatia currently uses distance-based tolls and ENC. Its new nationwide free-flow electronic toll system is scheduled to launch on 1 March 2027 and will then join the VignetteGO portfolio.

Eastern Europe

For trips to Romania, you need the Rovinieta – it offers options from daily to annual, suitable for both transit and longer stays.

The Bulgarian e-vinetka offers weekend, weekly, and monthly options, ideal for Black Sea vacations.

Routes to Moldova pass through Romania – you'll need both vignettes.

Alpine Countries

The Swiss e-vignette is unique with only annual validity (40 CHF), but it's valid for 14 months – from December of the previous year to the end of January of the following year.

It's essential for crossing Alpine tunnels toward Italy or France.
