How Croatian motorway tolls work in 2026
Croatia currently charges tolls according to the motorway section used and the vehicle category. On routes with a closed toll system, drivers normally take a ticket when entering and pay when leaving. Payment at staffed or automated toll plazas is generally possible in euros or by payment card. Always follow the signs for the correct vehicle category and payment lane.
The established ENC (Elektronička naplata cestarine) system uses an electronic device in the vehicle. It enables contactless payment in designated ENC lanes and can include discounts depending on the account model. ENC is not a time-based vignette: the charged amount still relates to motorway use.
Tolls and route prices can change. For the current amount for a specific entry and exit, use the official Croatian motorway operator rather than relying on an old price table.
What changes on 1 March 2027
The Croatian Government says the new electronic toll collection system will start across the national motorway network on 1 March 2027. It is designed for free-flow travel, so vehicles will no longer need to stop at toll barriers.
- Light vehicles will be able to register their licence plate and a valid payment method in the electronic system.
- ENC technology will remain another way to use the system.
- Automatic number-plate recognition and roadside equipment will record motorway use.
- The system remains an electronic toll collection system, not a short-term vignette sold by number of days.

When will Croatia be available through VignetteGO?
